Thomas Carew was the fourth child and eldest son of Sir John Carew and Elizabeth (Southcott) Carew.
He was born in 1607 at Crowcombe and lived there as well as at Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Thomas married Margery Wyndham, 14th and second youngest child of Sir John Wyndham and his wife Joan (Portman) Wyndham.
Thomas and Margery’s marriage produced four children.
Margery died in 1660 and was buried on the 7th of November that year.
Thomas died two years later and was buried on the 3rd December 1662.
Both were buried at the Holy Ghost churchyard, Crowcombe, Somerset.

Wall monument in the Carew Chapel in the Church of the Holy Ghost, Crowcombe.
The above wall monument says:
“Thomas Carew, their eldest son married Margery daughter of Sir John Wyndham of Orchard, knight. She was buried November 7 1660. He, December 3 1662. Elizabeth Carew, their daughter died December 10 1668. She gave to the poor of this parish and Stodely in Devon. 400 pounds now laid out in lands in Bishops Lydeard. John Carew, their eldest son was buried January 3, 1684. His only son by Catherine, daughter of Zouch Tate, dying underage was succeeded by Thomas Carew of Camerton, his uncle”.

Inside the St Decuman’s Church, Watchet, Somerset, is this monument dedicated to Sir John Wyndham and his wife Joan. It is erected vertically against the east wall of the North Aisle Chapel. Immediately adjacent to the right of the monument is a dedication to Sir John’s parents.

1. John Carew
Born in 1640 (see Allegation document below) and was buried on 3 January 1684 at the Holy Ghost churchyard (see above the wall monument at Holy Ghost Church).
His only son by Catherine, daughter of Zouch Tate, died underage and was succeeded by Thomas Carew of Camerton, his uncle.
The Allegation for John and Catherine was lodged on 14 September 1670.

2. Elizabeth Carew
Birth date 1642.
Died on 10 December 1668 unmarried. (See above the wall monument at Holy Ghost Church).
Only reference found about her life is highlighted on the wall monument (previous page) alluding to the fact that “she gave to the poor of the parish of the Church of the Holy Ghost, and Stodely in Devon. 400 pounds now laid out in the lands in Bishop, Lydeard”.

4. George Carew
1645 – 1684
On 1 May 1666, Thomas Heatly signed the Allegations form (below) consenting to his daughter Alice marrying George Elers.
Alice was the older sister of Mary Heatly who married George’s older brother, Thomas.
ALLEGATIONS DOCUMENT BY THOMAS HEATLY FOR ALICE TO MARRY GEORGE CAREW:
Carew, George, of St. Peter-the Poor, London, merchant, bachelor. About 29, and Mrs. Alice Heatly, of All Hallows Staining, spinster, about 21, consent of father, Thomas Heatly, of same, esq, at same. 1 May 1666.
