Very little is recorded for this couple – John died aged 49 and Marjery died aged 45.
John Carew of Crowcombe was born in 1475.
He was the eldest son and heir of Sir William Carew and Margaret Chedworth.
John married Marjery Kelly circa 1509.
He died on 1 March 1524.
After his death Marjery married to James Tyrrell of Columbine Hall (1477-1539).
She died in 1525.
John and Marjery were both buried near John’s parents in St Mary’s churchyard, Bury St Edmunds.
They only had one child, a son – George Carew of Stoodleigh and Camerton (1511-1538). See his bio in the “Family of George Carew and Margaret Englefield’ – Chapter 9.
An inquisition post mortem concerning the interest held by John in the manor of Wychbold, Dodderhill, Worcestershire, took place on 3 June 1547, twenty three years after his death, and nine years after the death of his son and heir George. (This post mortem can be viewed at “Archive C142/85/78”).
Due to the length of time that elapsed between the death of John and the settling of the estate, it was a very contested document.
